Video

Using excerpts from her classes, Patricia Allison cuts straight to the
heart of your problem. She shows you a way out — a way to become a
comfortable, happy ex-smoker. This 5 part, 160 minute videotape presents
the best of Patricia Allison's teaching. Patricia's style is warm, funny, straight-talking, and very real. She
knows where you're coming from — she's been there herself. You will learn
from the class participants, too. They are regular people, not actors,
learning how to get free from nicotine. |

"Listening to Patricia's tapes in my car helped maintain my confidence and
kept me in touch with my reasons for stopping smoking. I felt calmer, more
secure, and motivated to keep going." |
Hooked But Not Helpless
 |
"I have included Hooked But Not Helpless in our cardiac rehabilitation
program. Your book has helped many patients succeed who have failed in
numerous other attempts to stop smoking, because it teaches them how to
find the power within themselves to accomplish what needs to be done. I
recommend it highly." — David Bee, MD, Glendale Internal Medicine & Cardiology Group, Glendale,
California
From "Patients addicted to a book" by Dave Jewett, the Columbian, March
14, 1991
Portland author Patricia Allison wasn't at all surprised when the cardiac
rehab department at Southwest Washington Medical Center ordered two copies
of her book, "Hooked But Not Helpless," which outlines a plan for quitting
smoking. After all, that's the sort of book they would want around for
their patients to read.
But she says she was truly baffled when the hospital section ordered 10
more books and later 12 more copies. Finally she called the hospital in
Vancouver to see what was happening. Marion Cluzel, a clinical nurse
specialist, said the cardiac section had placed the first order to have a
couple of the books available for patients to read, and perhaps borrow.
But the books kept quickly disappearing.
"We've stamped our name all over the books, but they just can't seem to
leave them behind. And, of course, we want them to stop smoking, so we
just order more," Cluzel told the author. |
