How to Quit Smoking
|
QuitSmoking.com One of the wonderful benefits of the Internet is the instant communication it enables. The QuitSmoking.com Bulleting Board System (BBS) is a web-based message posting system that allows users from all walks of life, from all over the world, to read and post messages. Thousands of users have posted countless thousands of messages on the BBS, asking for advice, offering advice, complaining, praising, encouraging, and doing many other things. As you might imagine, just as in real life, the BBS contains as many different opinions as there are users. Differences of opinion sometimes lead to heated words, and even full-blown "battles." Also, the diverse backgrounds of the users means that what one person may find offensive, another may find totally benign. The point is that the people reading and posting here are all different. There is no way to please every person all the time. Therefore, we have developed guidelines for posting messages that should help you to express your opinion and your individualism, while respecting the other users of this BBS. 1. Remember that people of all ages, including students and children, are reading messages on the BBS. Create your messages accordingly. 2. If you wouldn't say something to someone in a face-to-face conversation, don't say it here. While this may be an anonymous forum, remember your manners! 3. Post only "golden rule" messages. In other words, send only messages that you would appreciate having someone send to you. 4. Remember that a flame will soon be extinguished if it is not fanned. 5. Excessive profanity or vulgarity in messages will not be tolerated. What is considered profane or vulgar? Refer to guideline number 1 and this question should not be a problem. 6. Remember the ultimate purpose of this BBS: helping yourself and others to quit smoking. While off-topic postings are expected, take care not to flood the BBS with this type of message. If necessary, communicate via email with other members whenever you have a lengthy off-topic discussion. When too many off-topic messages are on the BBS, many first-time visitors will have difficulty finding help for their smoking cessation efforts. However, don't be afraid to have light-hearted conversations. Quitting smoking is sometimes just too much pressure, so let off some steam. 7. Have fun and make friends. This BBS has enabled many new friendships and at least one actual marriage. Numerous members have communicated with other members by email, phone and even in person. 8. QuitSmoking.com reserves the right to remove any messages that it, at its own discretion, deems inappropriate. 9. Messages are maintained only for a limited time and are "pushed off" the BBS automatically as new messages are added. 10. Commercial postings will be removed. This includes messages promoting quit smoking products or any other product, service, etc. QuitSmoking.com reserves the right to post messages related to its own products and services or those of other companies.
