I read and enjoyed your smoking cessation program entitled NBAC (Never Buy
Another Cigarette). As a healthcare professional that deals with people's
healing and both good and bad habits, I routinely find it necessary to
employ behavioral modification techniques.
I found your program ingenious in that it engages the client to accept the
fact that they alone can choose to stop smoking. As with all behavioral
modification procedures it's important to let patients know and believe
that they are in control of their actions.
As with other more familiar "How To Stop" programs i.e., "Overeaters
Anonymous", "Alcoholics Anonymous", it is important that the patient be
held accountable to themselves or others in a group for their eventual
success or failure.
I believe your program is unique in that the patient does not feel
pressure as to having a time table for stopping smoking and the program
can be customized as to the patient's individual dependence for their
smoking habit.
One of the major reasons I believe people don't follow through with
success in stopping smoking is that their daily stresses may vary from day
to day and month to month. This would make it easy for a patient to
rationalize their giving up with a more regimented system. Positive
reinforcement is always more successful long term than negative
reinforcement and I believe the patient eventually receiving a diploma
would reinforce them to follow through with the commitment that was
spelled out in the contract they signed to themselves.

I have great sympathy for people living with an addiction to cigarette
