LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Hello again everyone!

We're well into January and by now most people have "lost" their
New Year's resolution. Whether it is to lose weight or quit
smoking, staying on course to achieve your resolution requires
daily vigilance. How are YOU doing?

If you've not kept your New Year's resolution, why not set a
January 20th resolution? Every day is a new opportunity to get
what you desire. Set about to make your desire to quit become a
reality.

Napoleon once said "The only conquests which are permanent and
leave no regrets are our conquests over ourselves." Quitting is
perhaps the greatest challenge for you. Make it your "conquest".
Quitting is worth it! If you can quit you can achieve anything.

FEATURED PRODUCT: Oxyfresh Air 250
http://www.quitsmoking.com/oxyair/index.htm

REMOVE SMOKE AND OTHER POLLUTION FROM THE AIR YOU BREATHE

The latest addition to The QuitSmoking.com product line
helps you clean the air you and your family breathe.

When people hear the term "air pollution," their heads are
clouded with images of smog-filled skies--not the air inside
their home or workplace. According to the Environmental
Protection Agency, the indoor air we breathe is two to 10 times
more polluted than the worst outdoor air. Couple that with the
fact that the average person spends 90 percent of their time
indoors, and it's clear that the quality of the indoor air we
breathe should be a major concern.

Due to the airtight energy efficiency of homes and buildings,
indoor air pollutants tend to remain--and even become
concentrated--indoors. Indoor air pollutants come in many forms:
smoke, bacteria, viruses, molds, fungi, toxins, chemicals,
mildew and many others. Most colds and viruses are blamed on
these indoor air pollutants.

If you are a smoker or have a smoker in your home or office,
your environment probably smells terrible! The Oxyfresh Air 250
can help eliminate those odors quickly and permanently. Second-
hand smoke may also be making your family and co-workers sick.
Help clear the air for everyone with the Oxyfresh Air 250!

While a majority of odor-removal methods use scents, the
Oxyfresh Air 250 transforms your indoor air into the clean,
fresh air you breathe near the ocean, by a waterfall, on a
mountain, or in a forest. The unique design of the unit uses
nature's cleaning methods: ozone, ultraviolet light, and
negative ions.

"We've been using the Oxyfresh Air 250 in the treatment
room (500-700 sq. ft.) of our veterinary hospital. It's a
large room with lots of odors and all you have to do is
crank-up the unit and the odors are gone in a snap. I like
the concept of 'no maintenance.' It's very quiet- you don't
notice it at all. And I like the UV concept-there's no
overwhelming ozone smell."

ARTICLE: Five Ways to Guarantee That You'll NEVER Quit Smoking

Brought to you by the Good-For-You-And-Your-Children Tobacco
Company.

You're hearing it from all directions: "Quit smoking!" But the
heck with that! You're going to smoke until the day you die,
right? Here's how to "fight back" against the tyrants and
authority establishment that is trying to make you quit.

First, you must never believe that quitting smoking is possible.
On the contrary, no one has ever quit smoking. Once you've had
one puff, you're hooked for life. Might as well just start
smoking even if you only inhale some second-hand smoke. You see,
if you believe you can quit smoking, then you might actually try
to do something about it. Believing is the first, most important
step to becoming an evil "non-smoker". So don't believe what you
hear from anyone else. Don't believe your own gut-instinct that
tells you that you do have the ability to quit. You don't! It's
impossible! Forget it!

Second, don't set a date for quitting. The winners in life are
the people who never plan their life. They just get lucky. Money
falls from the sky whenever they need it. They get around to
doing things "someday."

The losers in life spend time planning their day, planning their
goals and dreams; planning, planning, planning. Don't do that!
It's a waste of your time. You don't need to know when you are
going to do anything. You'll be just fine letting life "happen"
to you. Free love, man! Peace!

Don't set a date for quitting smoking. That way you'll never
know when you should put the cigarettes down for the last time.
That way you can just smoke one right after the other, with no
thought of when you want to become smoke-free.

Third, to guarantee you'll never quit smoking, don't talk to
your doctor about quitting. He or she will just give you a load
of hogwash. They think they know everything, those doctors. They
say smoking will shorten your life, make you sicker more often,
cause sexual dysfunction, give you heart and lung disease, plus
a whole bunch of other unsubstantiated claims. Everyone knows
that smoking never hurt anyone.

Your doctor would try to offer you his professional advice, and
maybe even try to prescribe some "helpful" medications for
quitting. They go to school for a million years and all of a
sudden these doctors think they can help heal people! Imagine.
Oh sure, studies may show that smokers who consult with their
physician are more likely to quit, but then everybody knows that
no one every quit smoking, right? (See the first method, above.)

Fourth, don't exercise. Exercise is hard. You have to burn
calories. You have to discipline yourself to move your muscles
three or four times per week. You have to stop watching TV for
30 minutes. No way!

Stay seated and smoke another pack. Or two.

Exercise is good for you, they say. It can help you take your
mind off smoking. It can relieve stress. But you have cigarettes
to relieve stress, right?

Who wants to exercise when it gives you bulging muscles and a
tone body? The "experts" will try to tell you that you might
feel pretty good about yourself when you start to get in shape.
You just might want to take better care of yourself and quit
smoking. Your self-esteem will improve, your sleep will improve,
your stamina will increase, your sense of purpose will rise,
your weight will drop, your performance at work will improve.
That's what the "experts" say. Nonsense. You're doing just fine
right now, smoking your cigarettes on the couch, in front of the
TV, right?

Finally, the fifth way to guarantee that you'll never quit
smoking is to just give up trying to quit. Don't take any action
toward quitting. It's not necessary. Oh sure, you've tried to
quit before. Did it work? Of course not. So forget it. It's just
not worth the effort. You're a slave to cigarettes.

You don't want to live five or ten years longer anyway, do you?
No, quitting isn't possible. Quitting requires that you actually
try. So don't try. Don't make plans to quit. Don't read about
how to quit. Don't talk with your doctor. Don't learn from other
smokers who quit. Don't try to quit cold turkey or to gradually
reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke. Don't do any of that
weird deep breathing stuff. Don't drink plenty of water. Don't
exercise. Don't eat healthier foods. Don't try to find a
quitting buddy. Don't remove all the ash trays and lighters and
matches and cigarettes from your home and office and vehicle.
Don't talk to strangers!

Face it, you're a smoker. You love smoking. You love the
coughing and hacking. You love freezing to death when you have
to smoke in the designated smoking area outside. You love being
stared at every time you light a cigarette in public. You love
spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars each year on your
habit. You love smelling terrible. You love having bad breath.
You love paying more for your insurance. You love spending time
in the hospital.

Remaining a smoker is easy, now that you know the five simple
ways to guarantee that you never quit smoking. Get started today
(or whenever you feel like it--or never--see step 5)

SMOKERS' STORIES

If you can help these folks with your suggestions please send
them email.

Adem <ademcgl@ada.net.tr> writes:

Dear Fred,

I am 42 years old healthy-female-smoker and have been smoking
for about 25 years, almost 1.5 pack a day!!! I subscribed to
your "quitsmoking" mailing list a few mounts ago.

I really enjoy smoking both cigarette and pipe and try every
thing makes it more enjoyable. I smoke cig. and pipe together in
winter times. It is clear that I am a real addict.

My first attempt to quitsmoking came after a bad cold, and
decided try to quit in 1982. The first three days I smoked a few
cigarette but never inhale. One week later I told my friends
that I had quit smoking! No one wanted to believe me (I am/was a
heavy smoker) but it was a real quitting after 11years-non stop-
smoking. I never felt a desire of one cigarette. The more If I
tried to smoke I felt disappointed because my lungs had been
unfamiliar with smoke.

After 2.5 years gone without smoking I felt myself under a
strong stress and started to smoke again. But unbelievable,
starting again was ten times harder than quitting! I think the
main reason for restarting to smoke was the lack of knowledge!!!

Finally.. I did my prep. mostly according to your comments and
decided my quit date: 1st Jan'99. I am on a diet for ten days as
a part of prep and already shed off 4 kg's. which is enough for
me. I have no doubt because I believe to quit smoking is more
important, beneficial... for me. I prepared my self mentally and
physiologically.

I would like to thank you very very much for the great job that
you are doing and wish to you and all readers a happy new year.

Bye

Adem

Dear Fred

Its been nearly 6 months since I stopped smoking...and believe
it or not, most of the time I forget I used to smoke. Just a
week ago, after a few Southern Comforts at a party, I decided to
have fun an light up one of my colleagues cigarettes....as I
tried to take the smoke down..I felt a horrible burning
sensation and continued to cough violently. The coughing
continued for literally 15 minutes. After the coughing fit, my
throat felt like fire. I dont think I will do that again. I work
in an office which is about to be "smoke-free" come January 1st.
It hasnt bothered me that people are smoking around me...in
actual fact it has helped as it reminds me of what I used to
smell like - all the time - but gradually, I am noticing little
differences. I am not one of those self-rightous ex smokers and
dont intend to be one. But for those who are struggling...I have
one thing to say - JUST KEEP TRYING - as one day you will
succeed. And remember take it one day at a time. Dont worry
about tomorrow....just concentrate on not smoking for an
hour..then the next hour and so on.

Good luck everyone.

In regards to sharing my story or process of quitting, I think
is like a miracle.

I recently moved from El Salvador to California, since the
environment is completely different and smoking is not allow
anywhere in California, I decided I was not going to buy
cigarettes and I was going to quit smoking. For some amazing
reason, the cravings have not been terrible.

I smoked for over six years, I would had two or three cigarettes
during the day and at night if I went out I would smoke a pack..

I am grateful to life for giving a second chance to reconcile
with my health. Hope to stay like this for the rest of my days.

D.A. <swan@snoopy.ccia.st-thomas.on.ca> writes:

I to have been trying to quit smoking over a period of at least
6 years. The first time I quit it was with the help of
ACCULASER. This was so effective I was able to continue my
monthly outings with my friends at the pub and the smoke did not
bother. This carried on for about a year and a half until we
went away on holidays. In my wisdom I thought I could become a
social smoker, not! Just one here and one there, but I did not
buy my own. On the way back home I decided to buy a carton,
since they were so much cheaper here than at home, and it was
down hill from there. Since then I had attempted to quit smoking
at least three times without much success. After years of
coughing and bronchitis I felt it was time to quit smoking
again, but this time I was going to "just do it". I went to my
doctor and asked about the patch which she convinced me to try.
The patch worked like a dream, no cravings, I did not feel like
over eating and I felt positively wonderful. This was about 3
years ago and the patch had worked for me for six months or I
should say until I was diagnosed with cancer. Imagine doctors
telling me that I had cancer and all I could do was think about
having a cigarette! Now, not only do I have cancer, I am a born
again smoker. I have tried the patch and cold turkey since this
but to no avail. I feel so out of control of my life now. Not
only can I not quit smoking my over all health is deteriorating.
I will be going in the hospital January 1999 for my next set of
treatments. Since I will be hospitalized for at least 3 or 4
days I am hoping this will give me the start to quit, again. I
have used all the excuses I can think of and have non left, but
continue to smoke. My husband and children have been very
supportive over the years but after each failure have been
disappointed, same as myself. I have since contacted a Dr. of
Homeopathic medicine. We have talked about my smoking and
cancer. He believes that one reason a lot of people who try to
quit smoking do not succeed because they do not maintain a
positive attitude, there are many other reasons (excuses). He
believes in the Gerson method for cancer treatment. In January,
"after my last set of treatments for cancer", I will be going in
to talk to him about the Gerson method as well as quitting
smoking. Prior to this I am searching the net for support, ideas
and a miracle to help me quit. After reading other submissions,
I feel your newsletter will be beneficial to me and I to will be
a success story. Thanks for having a site available to people
like myself.

Hi all you trying to quit smoking. Tomorrow will be my 21st
smokeless day. Thank God! I bought the OxyFresh Stop Smoking
method [Ed. note: visit http://www.easyquit.com for more info]
and before I could start using it, I got so sick, I couldn't get
out of bed, and I won't smoke in bed and didn't want to. I was
sick for 10 days and when I finally got up, I started doing the
Aroma Therapy that comes with the Oxy Fresh kit and it really
helped when I wanted a cigarette. I really haven't had any
really hard cravings, so it hasn't been too bad. By the way I
smoked for 66 years. I also haven't had any coffee, cuz that
always triggered my really wanting a cigarette. I am still using
the Aroma Therapy, and by the way you can buy Lavender for
relaxation Aroma Therapy at Walgreens, I forgot mine Christmas
so I bot some and it worked just as well but that was after two
+ weeks. I really think I have it licked this time, I know that
if I smoke a cigarette, it will make me cough, taste terrible
and give me a headache. And to get my old smoking buzz back, I
would have to smoke a pack, so why bother. This is really
working for me.

I tried about 20 times to quit before. So don't give up trying,
each time you try to quit, you are one time closer to making it.
By the way, I feel great.
