About the Quit Smoking Academic Scholarship

The Quit Smoking academic scholarship will award $1,000 to a student who demonstrates academic excellence and a passion and commitment to helping others overcome tobacco or related addictions.

The essay should cover things like:

  • The student’s passion and commitment to helping others overcome tobacco or other addiction
  • Why the student wants to be a doctor or professional in addiction management or behavior modification
  • Current ideas for helping others overcome addiction
  • The motivation behind studying behavior modification
  • High-level goals in the next 5-10 years
  • What it means to overcome addiction

Supporting Documents Required of Potential Winners*:

  1. One copy of Official High School or College Transcripts
  2. Publicity/Liability Release
  3. Copyright Assignment
  4. IRS Form W-9
  5. Copy of United States Driver’s License
  6. Headshot photograph in high-resolution, digitally as a JPEG or TIFF file


When does the submission process begin and end?

Essays may be submitted between 12:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time on April 1, 2012 and 12:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time on October 1, 2012. The scholarship recipients will be notified by email on or about November 1, 2012.

Who is eligible to apply?

Any graduate or undergraduate student who is currently attending a college or university studying medicine, physiology, psychology or other behavior modification related field.

How are essays judged?

Essays are judged by creativity, specificity, and basic grammar. We are looking for students with a vision to change lives and bring greater understanding to overcoming addiction.

How is my personal information used?

A minimum amount of personal information is needed to verify your submission and provide with a means of contact should you become a scholarship recipient. This personal information is used for our internal records only and we will not share your personal information with any third-parties.

What scholarship awards are available? How do I redeem a scholarship?

The winner will receive a $1,000 college scholarship that will be paid directly to the scholarship recipient’s college or university.
