I recently had to try and stop smoking while recovering from surgery on my nose. I found eating licorice helpful, all flavors, and also hard candy with sugar. The nicorette gum works only temporarily. If you smoke within 30 mins after waking up, try and extend when you will have your first cigarette each new day. You can also try exercising when you are feeling, sad, lonely, depressed, angry, and out of sorts. Try and develop other alternatives instead of grabbing a cigarette after a meal or drinking alcohol. Good luck to all who are trying to quit, its tough but not impossible.
