Chitosan: A dietary fiber derived from chitin, a polysaccharide found in the outer shells (exoskeleton) of shellfish that
is an effective weight loss and cholesterol-lowering aid. This insoluble, non-digestible fiber causes the
molecular attraction and bonding of up to 12 times its weight in fatty oils - a process called polymerization. The gelled
fat polymer is too large to be absorbed through the intestinal wall and travels through the body without being
digested. According to clinical studies, weight loss averaged 8% of body weight over a 4-week test period.
Gymnema sylvestre: An Indian Ayurvedic herbal medicine that has come into modern use after two thousand years
of folklore use in India for diabetes, and many other uses. The common name, "gurmar", means sugar
destroyer. Gymnema is an effective hypoglycemic and anti-diabetic agent. Clinical research suggests it prevents the
absorption and activity of glucose molecules through the intestinal tract. It is not a cure and does not substitute for proper
dietary habits, but may be beneficial in regulating blood sugar levels in diabetics. The herb produces gymnemic acid,
which neutralizes the sweet flavor of sugar if placed on the tongue prior to the sugar. The acid has been broken down into
at least four fractions. Hentriacontane, a glucoside, along with gymnemic acid, are responsible for the
anti-glucose properties. Among the basic pharmacological properties of gymnema are antiviral; increases oxygen
uptake, increases secretions of liver and pancreas.
Garcinia cambogia: Derived from a plant belonging to a large genus of evergreen trees and shrubs native to
Asia, Polynesia, and South Africa. It has a long history of use in traditional Hindu medicine to relieve stomach
problems, chronic indigestion, and rheumatism. The phytochemical extract of the fruit, (-) Hydroxcitric Acid, or (-) HCA, may
help suppress appetite and has been shown to have dramatic effect at the cellular level in accelerating fat burning
and inhibiting fatty acid synthesis. This happens because (-) HCA competes with citric acid for available levels of
citrate lyase causing less acetyl Coenzyme A to form. This disrupts the synthesizing of fat. The
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 1977 reported the use of (-) HCA in a test concluded that the acid could lower fat levels without loss
of body protein or lean mass. In 1987, the Annals of the New York Academy of Science reported on a study of
obese men given 800 MG of (-) HCA daily that showed and average loss of 3.5 pounds after only one week. Another
recent study of obese patients conducted in Hilton Head, S.C. showed an average weight loss of 11.1 pounds over an
eight week period taking (-) HCA while those taking a placebo lost only 4.2 pounds
Vitamin C: Aids in the absorption of the Cheat & Eat complex.
